WEEK 2: Philippians 3:13 (Kelly)

"Letting Go, Moving Forward"

S-Scripture "Brethern, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forth unto those things which are before."

O-Observation Paul has just finished talking about death and resurrection (v. 10-11) and is telling the church his current focus. He has not reached the goal (of heaven), rather is on the path to share in Christ's victory over death. By forgetting what is behind, he is allowing his old self to die (like the flesh on the cross), and reaching toward the power of resurrection (new life) in Christ.

A-Application This scripture makes me think of Hebrews 12:1. It is important for me to leave my old self in the past-and to do this DAILY!!! That is why Jesus died. He defeated DEATH by being raised again, so I can defeat sin-my old self, and find daily renewal in Him!!

P-Prayer Father, you sent Jesus to defeat sin and death, to rise to a new life with you! Thank you!! Because of Jesus, I have the power to leave behind my sinfulness and reach toward oneness with your Spirit. Thank you for your Holy Spirit! Help me to remain free and focused on what is ahead (heaven) so that I do not pick up the weights of my past sins. Help me to have the strength and courage to do this DAILY. Hallelujah and thank you for new life in Christ! In Jesus name, Amen.

Philippians 2:12 (Asia)

Title: Obligations of a Christian

S- Scripture: Phil 2:12- Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

O- Observation: Take the same enthusiasm and zest that we have about the awesomeness and Power of God, that we would demonstrate in front of Jesus, into the world around us. Cultivate, carry-out, complete, water and grow the purpose in Christ that we have been given.

A- Application: This motivates me to continue to live a life of Christ, as if Jesus was visibly and physically walking with me. I am reminded to continually allow my lifestyle to be a walking ministry of the grace and love of God.

P- Prayer: Dear Lord, provide me with the strength and diligence to continue to walk the path of righteousness, despite the trials and tribulations that may come my way. Thank you Lord, that I keep my focus stayed on you, that I seek you first, that I put you first. I thank you that your light shines through me and that you use me as a vessel to deliver your Word.

In the name of Jesus I pray,
Amen.

Philippians 2:8-9 (Kelly)

Title: Humble like Christ

S-Scripture: "And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death on the cross. Therefor God also has highly exalted Him and given Him a name which is above every name." (v. 8-9)

O-Observation-Humility is the way to exaltation from God. Jesus chose to be LOW (to men) and obeyed even in the most undesirable circumstance (death on the cross). He was rewarded HIGHLY by God (though lowly by man).

A-Application-Ignore selfishness and thoughts of entitlement. The more humble I can become on Earth, the more I reap in heaven with the Lord. Don't belittle or have an inferiority complex.

P-Prayer-Jesus, please help me to remain humble. I often become discouraged because I feel like I am entitled to be treated, or appreciated, a certain way. Let me seek YOUR approval above man's. Thank you, Jesus, Amen.

Philippians 2:14-15 (Deb)

Title: Lights of The world

S- "Do everything without complaining or arguing, 15so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe" Philippians 2:14-15

O- No matter what you do, you shouldnt argue with others or complain about things. This is the key to becoming pure and innocent children of God. Although we live among people who do bad and evil things (non christians), they shouldn't be able to say that we have done wrong (like smoking and drinking, just like they do). But we should be an Example and set apart from them, shinning as lights among the people of the world.

A- Sometimes I complain and argue with others but I shouldnt. There are bad people in the world and we as christians shouldnt do the things of the world like the non believers do. Everyone should be able to tell the difference between a christian and a non believer. Be lights so that we can be seen by God when he returns to this world of Darkness! :)

P- Dear God thank you for the word. Lord please allow me to be a better Christian so that I am not living like the non believers of the world. Help me to be pure and innocent and continue to let my light shine. In the name of Jesus Amen.

Philippians 2:3-5 (Deb's Post)

Title: True Humbleness

S- Scripture "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interest, but also to the interest of others your attitude should be the same as Jesus! Philippians 2:3-5

O- Observation: Don't be jealous or proud, but be humble and consider others more important than yourself. Be more concerned with them then yourself, this is what Jesus did and we should try to be more like him (selflessness)

A- Application: This scripture reminds me that it is not always about me and that I should be more humble. Sometimes I might be satisfied with the things that aren't happening in my life right now, but I need to start appreciating everything that God has done for me. I also shouldn't be jealous of what someone else has that I dont have. And lastly I should put others before myself.

P- Prayer: Dear God please help me to be more humble and more like Jesus. Give me a peaceful heart that I might love others more and begin to put their needs before mines. In the name of Jesus Amen.
